Benzyl Benzoate is a clear, nearly odourless liquid used in perfume and attar making as a solvent and fixative. It has a faint, mild balsamic note that does not interfere with the scent of the materials it is blended with.
It is used to dilute essential oils, absolutes, resinoids and aroma chemicals that are too thick or too concentrated to use directly, and it helps hold volatile notes longer in a finished blend. It is also used in soap and cosmetic formulations where a solvent base is needed.
Mix it into concentrated oils, absolutes or aroma chemicals to thin them for easier blending, and use it as a carrier base in attar and perfume compositions. It can be combined with other solvents such as DPG as required by the formulation.
