Galbanum resinoid has a sharp, green, bitter-woody odour with a slightly earthy undertone, typical of the raw gum from which it is extracted. The scent sits in the top to middle of a composition and carries a distinct freshness unlike floral or sweet materials.
It is used in perfume and attar blending to add a green, herbal facet to chypre, fougère and woody compositions, and can also serve as a fixative component in soap and cosmetic fragrance bases.
Dissolve in alcohol or a suitable solvent before blending, and add in small proportion to a composition since the odour is strong. Mix gradually with other perfume materials and test the blend before scaling up.
